Tensho offers helicopter PPL, CPL, ATP and tactical pilot training in a unique environment at the Tensho Training Academy located close to the Pilanesberg nature reserve known as “the Farm”. Our tactical pilot training program and Tactical Flight Officer training program are the only programs of their kind in Africa, Europe, Asia and South America.
Full time and part time students are housed at the Farm, which includes; Lodge type accommodation, 3 meals per day, housekeeping, laundry and wifi.
PPL (Private Pilots License)
Requirements:
- Be at least 16 years of age to go solo
- Be at least 17 years of age to obtain a Private Pilot’s License
- Be able to read, speak, write and understand English
- Class 1 or 2 Aviation Medical

Tactical Flight Officer (TFO) Training
5 Day course
Tactical Flight Officers (TFO) offer tactical onboard support to police and private security helicopter pilots to obtain tactical aerial mission success. Tensho’s TFO training program provides the student with the necessary skills required to assist pilots to conduct aerial operations ranging from routine patrols, surveillance, suspect apprehension and search-and-rescue operations. The training reassures that the mission is conducted in a safe and controlled manner.
Course content
Day 1
- Basic aeronautical navigation
- Moving map navigation
Day 2
- Cockpit safety procedures
- Emergency Landing procedures and direct action drills
Day 3
- Cockpit communications and language
- Vehicle pursuit tactics and ground unit co-ordination
- Foot and vehicle pursuit observation tactics and ground unit co-ordination
Day 4
- Ground Practical - 9 hours ground simulations (Incorporating Day1,2,3 theory)
Day 5
- 7am – 12pm: Recap of day 4 and preparation for simulation. Continue to 1 hour helicopter mission simulation (Real Time Mission - Vehicle Pursuit and foot pursuit)
- 2pm – 3pm: Recap of completed mission simulation
- 3pm - 4pm Final evaluation (Vehicle pursuit and emergency landing) 1hour helicopter mission.
